Renowned actor-director Amol Palekar has been selected to manage Oscar jury for finalizing entries from Indian movies under foreign movies category at 88th Oscars Awards. Amol is best known for his role in ‘Golmaal’ and later went to direct ‘Paheli’ which made a debut as India’s first ever direct entry into Oscar Awards nominees in 2005.
Film Federation of India (FFI) Mumbai Secretary, Supran Sen ,” We have selected Amol Palekar as the head of India’s Oscar jury. He is an eminent film personality”.
Mr.Anmol will be leading 17 members jury at 88th Academy Awards coming year. Palekar expressed his joy on being selected as Chairman to represent India at Oscars in 2016.
Anmol has been away from silver screen all these days and is best known for directing movies which had a classy Indian touch with films like Rajnigandha, Ek Choti Si Baat, Chitchor, Golmaal and Gharaunda during the 70’s. Some of his works like ‘Dhyaasparva’ and ‘Quest’ have also won him National Awards.
Liar’s Dice, starring Geetanjali Thapa and Nawazuddin Siddiqui was chosen as India’s feature film under foreign film category out numbering, Queen, Mardaani, Shahid, Regional Language films like yellow, Fandry, Jatishwar and Apur Panchali. ‘Mother India’ and ‘Salaam Bombay’ are the movies which were listed in the final five at Oscars. 88th Academy Awards will be presented at Los Angeles on February 28.
Anmol Palekar spoke to media ,”I am happy that I have been appointed as the chairman of India’s Oscar jury. We haven’t decided on any criteria for selecting a film for Oscars. I will have a meeting first with our esteemed members and work out the selection criteria”.
