Indian Shooter Ayonika Paul has added one more medal to her kitty by bagging a bronze in the women’s 10m air rifle event here on Monday. The 23-year old Paul has achieved a score of 185 in the final round at the Dr Karni Singh Shooting while Jasmine Wei Xian Ser of singapore has registered 208.1 and Iran’s Elaheh Ahmadi collected 206.6.
Besides this Aashi Rastogi and Prachi Gadkari has won a gold and two bronze medals in the women’s 10m air rifle youth and Shriyanka Sadangi had won in Junior Category.
In the event, Ayonika began with a good hope and maintained her uniformity except for two low scores of 9.6 and 9.0 towards the end pinning hopes on winning silver, but Singaporean proved too good by maintaining foremost in the eight women final. While Elaheh Ahmadi achieved 206.6 of Iran clinched the silver.
“Pressure was there from the beginning but we are trained to handle that. Yes, I could have done better in the last two shots but it was not my day. I was prepared for a better result,” Ayonika said.
Ser Xiang while speaking to the media after the event said, “I am very happy as this was a high enough quality field at the Asian level and it definitely boosts my confidence before I resume my fight for a Rio quota at the Asian Shooting Championship in November.”
She added: “I have been missing the quota by the narrowest of margins and this event is great preparation before the last quota event for Asian shooters.”
Indian Shooter Abhinav Bindra had opened his account by clinching gold medal in men’s 10m air rifle event.
Other top two shooters Vijay Kumar and Henna Sidhu are also participating in the tournament.
