Expressing that there is no air of prejudice in the nation, the Minister solicited how many writers protested amid the Emergency or against the 1984 Sikh killings.

It’s a manufactured protest says Jaitley

Terming the lynching of an individual from the minority group in Dadri as extremely deplorable Jaitley said such episodes conveyed a terrible name to the nation. He said through a Facebook post titled ‘A manufactured revolt – Politics by other means’, the death by lynching of a member from minority group at Dadri was very sad and condemnable. No right thinking person can ever rationalize and support such an activity. Such incidents convey an awful name to the nation. Jaitley said the protesting writers have battled hard to discover a reason as rationalist MM Kalburgi was shot dead in Congress-ruled Karnataka. Also, the Dadri episode occurred in SP-ruled Uttar Pradesh.

Jaitley asked, “Subsequent to this incident, a series of writers have returned awards conferred on them by the Sahitya Academy. The thrust of the writers’ protest appears to be that under the present central government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, an atmosphere of intolerance has been created in the country. Is this protest real or a manufactured one? Is this not a case of ideological intolerance?”
