Sania-Martina Clinches US Open Women’s Double Title

Women top seeds Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis beat fourth seeded pair of  Casey Dellacqua of Australia and Yaroslava Shvedova of Kazakhstan 6-3, 6-3 to claim the US open title here on Sunday.

In the first set duo looked completed control right from the beginning and took only 69 minutes to defeat Australian-Kazakh pair at Arthur Ashe stadium. In the second set Dellacqua and Shvedova have fought a little but their effort seems to be not enough.

The pair had not dropped throughout the tournament. Mirza till now had won five Grand Slam titles,Australian Open in 2009,French Open in 2012 and also won mixed doubles last year US open with Brazil’s Bruno Soares. Additionally her partnership with  Hingis helped her to reach  World No.1 in the double rankings.

Sania Martina Bags Grand-Slam

Sania has also mixed double titles last year, but this was her first win at US open at doubles category.

Martina had bagged her second trophy on Sunday,after clinching mixed doubles crown on Friday with another Indian Leander Paes.

Sania and Martina had won their first women’s doubles Grand Slam title together in the wimbledon in the beginning of this year. Besides that the  pair also won a  Masters 1000 tournaments, Miami,Family Circle Cup in Charleston.

Sania and Martina break into the title round easing past Italian 11th seeds Sara Errani and Flavia Pennetta 6-4, 6-1. Dellacqua-Shvedova defeated unseeded German-American pair of Anna-Lena Groenefeld and Coco Vandeweghe 6-7 (3), 7-5, 7-5 to reach the final.
