For allegedly fishing in Lankan waters close Katchatheevu in the Palk Straits, the Sri Lankan naval force today arrested 24 fishermen furthermore pursued away many others at gun point. Last night more then 3,000 fishermen in 600 water boats had put out to sea. The fishermen were fishing close at Katchatheevu in Palk Straits claimed the anglers were fishing in traditional waters.
Fisher association pioneers S Emirate and Sagayaraj said, the Lankan naval force staff came in 10 patrol boats and sea bicycles, undermined the fishermen and arrested 24 of them others at firearm point. The naval force personnel on October 10 arrested 19 fishermen from Nagapattinam district on charges of violating the International Maritime Boundary Line provoking Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa to write to Prime Minister Narendra Modi pleading him to take up the proceeded with arrests of state’s anglers at a high political level with Sri Lanka.
